Oil pulling is all the rage right now and for good reason.
It is one of the easiest ways to detox your body and also get numerous health benefits.
Although oil pulling can be as easy as one, two, three; it can seem a bit tricky and even tedious when you are first starting out with your oil pulling sessions.
So here are some tips and tricks to make your oil pulling go smoothly and easy as pie.
Choosing Your Coconut Oil
There are a few oils you can use for oil pulling but my personal preference is Raw Coconut Oil. I always have it on hand and I prefer the flavor of coconut over the other types of oils. Plus coconut oil has anti-microbial and anti-viral properties to help in fighting the germs and toxins.
Less is More
Start with a smaller amount of oil your first time and work your way up to using more if needed. Although it may not feel like much at first, as you start to swish, saliva will be added to it as well and it will grow in size. If you have too much in your mouth you will be more likely to choke, gag or even swallow your oil and that is definitely not recommended.
Solid vs. Melted
I prefer using coconut oil in its solid form. I just scoop a spoonful out and put it in my mouth and just swish/chew it until it is completely melted. If you prefer to have it as a liquid before putting it in your mouth, you can melt your oil in a jar by placing it in warm water until it liquefies.
I have found if I do my oil pulling while I’m taking a shower or going thru my emails in the morning it makes the time go by a lot quicker than if I just sit and stare at the clock. Fold laundry, shave your legs or make lunch…anything to help pass the time.
Add Essential Oils
I highly recommend doing this! It helped me tremendously with my gag reflex and not wanting to swallow it. My favorite essential oils to use are peppermint, spearmint and cinnamon. It just helps me with swishing it in my mouth back and forth and I also love the freshness it leaves in my mouth.
Do First Thing in the Morning
Starting your day with oil pulling is one of the best ways to start. Toxins tend to buildup and linger overnight while we sleep, so doing oil pulling first thing in the morning is awesome to grab all those nasty germs and toxins without anything else standing in its way.
Brush & Floss After
Once you have done your oil pulling its important to brush and floss well so you can get rid of the germs that have gotten loosened up by the oil pulling.
Spit Oil Out in Trash
It is recommended to spit your oil out in the trash instead of the sink because consistent coconut oil in your drain could lead to clogging. Remember coconut oil solidifies once it’s under 76* F.
Those are just a few tips and tricks to help you out with oil pulling.
Although the task may seem daunting at first, do not give up.
The benefits make it worthwhile.

I have constant dry mouth which in turn causes bad breath. I use to try to mask it with gum, mints and mouthwash but now that I have been oil pulling I have noticed that both my dry mouth and breath seems improved.

I have constant blemishes but since I have been oil pulling they seem fewer and farther between.
Although I have not been oil pulling for long, I have very high hopes for extremely positive results.
